Unionhalle (Siemensstraße 20A, 10551 Berlin) – English

The following steps should be observed:

Good to Know

  • All lights must be switched on and off manually! This means no lights should be left on.
Exception: Lights with motion sensors in the equipment room.
  • The doors inside the hall can supposedly be left open (this is still being clarified). However, it is advisable to lock any doors we had to unlock at the beginning when we leave.
One women’s and one men’s changing room can be unlocked. The key also fits the shower rooms.
  • Registration forms for new members can be found in the box.
  • There are also ice packs in the box, when needed in case of injury.
  • We usually cannot open the windows. Some windows can be opened with a key – but our key doesn’t fit. It’s best not to change anything.
  • The handball department sometimes needs the hall at short notice. If handball players would like to use the hall completely or partially, please try to negotiate amicably. We are guests of the handball department, and we would like to continue to enjoy their hospitality in the future. Thank you!

Setup / Before the Game

The most logical order is roughly like this…

1. Unlock Hall
  • Unlock the door with the key.
  • Set the small latch on the lock so that the door can only be opened from the inside (see photo).
Note: Always let the door fall shut (risk of theft)!
However, we usually leave the latch in the open position for the first fifteen minutes so the door can be easily pulled open. Only then do we ensure that no one can enter the hall unnoticed while we are playing.
2. Turn on the Lights
  • In the teacher’s booth there are switches on the wall next to the fuse box (see photo).
3. Get the Box
  • The box containing the materials is located in the last storage room, on the cabinet at the far left (see photo).
Note: The storage room is always a wonderful surprise package of tidying chaos! 😀 Our materials are tucked away in the furthest corner, meaning we often have to move things out of the way to get to them. Please handle everything carefully; if necessary, move containers from the room to the hall.
  • Take the box to the hall (see photo).
4. Setting up the Courts
  • Get the metal supports from the corner by the box (see photo).
Note: There are two pairs of thick blue and thin gray metal supports.
  • Four courts can be set up in the hall. To do this, open the covers at the edges of the courts.
Note: There are two different types of metal supports, arranged diagonally. You’ll figure out which ones go where. 🙂
  • Hang the net on the metal supports (see photo).
Caution: Only attach and tension the rope on which the net is threaded. DO NOT use the guy lines in the eyelets, as this could tear the net (see photo)!
  • Tighten the net by turning the metal supports until the net is sufficiently taut.
Tip: Guide the rope onto the hooks at the top to maintain the correct height.
  • Attach the guy lines as desired… or not. 🙂

Dismantling / After the Game

Basically, the whole affair in reverse…

1. Dismantle Courts
  • Take down the nets, fold them neatly, and pack them in the box.
  • Take the metal supports to the storage room.
  • Collect and dispose of any leftover debris, such as feather fragments.
2. Stow the Box
  • Return the box to the storage room.
3. Sign the Form
  • On the windowsill in the hall, in front of the teachers‘ booth, lies a binder (see photo).
  • Enter the following (ideally by the key holder):
  • Date
  • Time („22:00 – 22:00“)
  • Club („GuMu“ is sufficient)
  • Department („Badminton“)
  • Signature
Note: The binder might not be there. In that case, skip this step. 🙂
4. Lights
5. Check Rooms
  • All lights off?
  • Doors that were previously closed are locked again?
  • No trash or feather dust left behind?
  • Perfect!
6. Leave the Hall
  • Lock the hall with the key.
  • The key holder must ensure the door is locked!
